There’s a lot of confusion and misinformation surrounding essential oil candles, so I’m here to clear up any questions you might have.

Are Essential Oils Flammable?

Yes! They can be; if you don't know how to work with them. Do NOT listen to search engines recommendation of adding EO's to already burning candles. That is extremely dangerous! Essential oils have limitations on how much can be used and has to be properly blended with wax or a carrier oil to ensure safety.

Why can't an essential oil candle fill a room with scent?

Essential oils are extremely flammable so I am limited to how much oil I can use to scent my candles. Without the chemicals used in traditional fragrances, it is nearly impossible to make an essential oil candle that is as strong as a fragrance oil candle.

How do I know the candles are as clean as you say?

If you read My Story, I physically cannot make synthetic products, or I'll get severely ill. Every product has the full ingredient list in the description. However, I can also provide SDS, GCMS testing, IFRA statements etc. at your request. Send me an email with the product you're requesting information on to: onthebrightsidehandmade@gmail.com

Are your candles Pet Safe?

We love our fur babies here at OTBS, and I am proud to say that my candles are safe for pets! The concentrations of oils in the candles and wax melts are low enough that they do not cause issues.

However, please ensure that your pet is not able to ingest these products.

I also recommend allowing your pet to freely leave the space where you are burning/diffusing essential oil-based products.

Do the candles expire?

Because I do not use any preservatives in my candles, I highly suggest a shelf life of about a year. The candle itself will not expire, but the burn quality does degrade after a year.

Can I return my jars to be refilled once I'm done burning my candles?

Please recycle or reuse your jars once you are done burning your candle! I am not currently able to process them for reuse, but I always recommend using them for an alternate purpose whether it's a drinking glass, a pencil holder, or a craft project!

Are your products cruelty free?

Yes! All ingredients used in our products are cruelty free and Vegan!

How do I get Free Shipping?

I offer Free Shipping on orders over $100 - I hope to lower this in the future but as a small business, shipping fees can really eat away at the profit, making it impossible to grow.

If you are local to Putnam, CT I offer Free Pickup if you use code LOCALPICKUP at checkout.

Why don't you offer Refunds?

As with many other small businesses, I cannot afford to offer a complete satisfaction guaranteed refund policy. I have learned over the years that sense of smell is very subjective, and although I really want to, I can’t make everyone happy. Which is why I offer the Discovery Kit! This allows you to smell all scents offered and pick your favorite. Give away the rest!

If your candle arrives damaged or defective, please reach out ASAP with photos. This way, we can file a claim with the shipping provider and get a replacement sent to you!

Do you offer Subscriptions?

Yes! I offer a seasonal Self-Love Club Subscription. This service sends out an exclusive candle in a 12oz vessel every season. You can pay upfront for the full year or choose your seasons individually. FREE Shipping is included as an exclusive perk for this service.

I'd like to expand this to have more products included, like a pulse point roller, a room spray and some wax melts. Subject to customer interest. Stay Tuned...

Possible Candle Imperfections

Wax "pulling away" from the glass is a common occurrence in candles. It happens when the wax cools and contracts after being melted. As the wax solidifies, it can shrink slightly, causing it to pull away from the sides of the container.

*I could pack a perfectly beautiful candle and depending on the environment and temperature during shipping, it could pull away by the time it gets to you. This does not affect the performance of the candle at all, just an annoying visual.*

Candle "frosting" refers to the white, cloudy spots or crystals that can appear on the surface of a candle, especially pure soy wax candles. This occurs when the natural oils in the wax rise to the surface and crystallize, giving it a frosty or grainy appearance. It’s a completely normal and natural process, particularly with soy wax, and doesn’t affect the candle’s performance or burn quality.

*I've reduced this by adding coconut wax to help smooth it out, but it could still happen after use.*
