WHY it's made

OTBS products are mindfully curated as an alternative to toxic and harmful brands. We aim to create goods with a purpose, to help aid in relaxation and self-care without the worry of toxic chemicals in your home.

Caring for your Candle

Properly burning your candle for the first time is crucial:

Ensure that the melted wax reaches the edge of the container by allowing it to burn for approximately 2 to 3+ hours. This simple step sets the foundation for an optimal candle-burning experience by creating a memory ring to avoid future tunneling.

Caring for your candle:

  • Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Never on wood or soft material surfaces.
  • Always keep a burning candle away from drafts, fans, curtains, and other flammable materials.
  • Burn within sight. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Trim the wick to 1/4 " tall before every burn! Trimming the wick is important because it helps the candle burn properly and prevents it from self-extinguishing. An overgrown wick can lead to excessive smoke, soot, and an uneven flame.
  • Wooden wicks can be tricky to get started. Keep the flame on the wick a little bit longer than a cotton wick candle. You will see it catching fire.
  • If the wick won’t stay lit or the flame is dancing too much, put it out, trim the wick, and re-light.
  • Avoid excessive burn time, no more than 4 hours is recommended. For longer life, blow them out at 3.
  • Always monitor your candles around small children and pets.

How to Clean your Vessel

Cleaning out your candle jar to reuse it

Hot water can be used to easily and safely remove wax. Place the candle on a stable, heat protected surface. Pour very hot water (I use my tea kettle) into the container, leaving room at the top. The hot water will melt the wax and it will float to the top.

Let the water cool overnight and simply pop out the wax that formed on top of the water.

Strain the water to get rid of any small wax bits (Don’t pour wax down the drain) !

Wipe any remaining wax and clean with hot soap and water.

Speaking of recycling. Our packaging and kraft paper labels are simple, we concentrate on the luxury ingredients in our candles not on expensive packaging.
